'The Godfather Part II' won the Best Picture Oscar at the 47th Academy Awards on this day in 1975, becoming the first sequel to win the Best Picture Award. 

Francis Ford Coppola’s gangster epic received a total of 11 nominations, winning six which included a Best Director Oscar for Coppola and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Robert De Niro.
