'The Grand Budapest Hotel' was given a wide release in U.S. theaters on this day in 2014. Wes Anderson's comedy-drama centres on a mountainside resort in the fictional country of Zubrowka and its concierge; Monsieur Gustave. H (Ralph Fiennes) against the backdrop of an approaching fascist regime. The movie opened to positive reviews and was a surprise box office success, grossing $172.9 million, making it Anderson's most commercially successful film to date.
'The Grand Budapest Hotel' received a total of nine Academy Award nominations, going on to win four for Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Costume Design.
