The premiere of 'The Lost Weekend' took place in Los Angeles on this day in 1945. Billy Wilder's harrowing film noir drama, based on the 1944 novel by Charles R Jackson, stars Ray Milland as an alcoholic writer who falls off the wagon and embarks on a four-day drinking bout.

The movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning four for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.
