The premiere of John Huston's 'The Misfits' took place at the Granada Theater in Reno, Nevada on this day in 1961. Starring Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift and set in Nevada in 1960, the movie was a failure at the box office at the time of initial release but received critical acclaim for the performances from Gable, Monroe, Clift and Eli Wallach. Huston's film is now considered a masterpiece and one of the best films of the 1960s.
