The world premiere of Clint Eastwood's classic revisionist western 'Unforgiven' took place at the Mann Bruin Theater in Los Angeles on this day in 1992. Eastwood directed and starred as aging gunfighter and killer William Munny, now a repentant widower trying to raise two children on a farm that is failing. Munny agrees to take on one last job to provide for his children after a sizable bounty is offered by a group of prostitutes when one of them is left disfigured by a client.
'Unforgiven' was a hit with critics and audiences alike, grossing over $159 million on a budget of $14.4 million. The film won four Academy Awards: Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood, Best Supporting Actor for Gene Hackman and Best Film Editing for Joel Cox.
