The premiere of 'You Only Live Twice' was held at the Odeon Leicester Square in London with Queen Elizabeth II in attendance on this day in 1967. Sean Connery returned for the fifth time as James Bond. Based on a screenplay by Roald Dahl, it was the first in the 007 series to be directed by Lewis Gilbert who would go on to direct two more Bond films, 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977) and Moonraker' (1979), both starring Roger Moore. The film was released in cinemas across the United Kingdom and the United States the following day and went on to gross over $111 million at the box office worldwide.
